About the Triumph Speed Triple 900
The Triumph Speed Triple 900 is the first modern Hinckley streetfighter and always uses the 885 cc liquid-cooled triple. The original T300 combines that engine with carburettors, a steel spine frame and five gears. In 1997 the completely redesigned T509 arrived: still 885 cc, but with fuel injection, six gears, a single-sided swingarm and a substantially more modern chassis. The later 955i does not belong in this 900 family.
The Speed Triple 900 suits a rider seeking character, midrange response and an unfiltered naked-bike experience. The T300 feels larger and more traditional; the T509 steers more sharply and needs different diagnostic and parts attention. Neither is a carefree beginner choice. On a used example, a healthy battery/starter system, cooling circuit, correct carburettor or injection setup and documented servicing matter more than paint, exhausts or a loose streetfighter conversion.
