About the Moto Guzzi Quota
The Moto Guzzi Quota is an Italian adventure-tourer built around the well-known air-cooled 1000/1064 cc V-twin with shaft drive. The first-generation Quota 1000 appeared in 1992 as Guzzi's answer to the growing dual-sport market; in 1997 the improved Quota 1100 ES followed with a larger displacement, upgraded suspension, and standard luggage. The long-travel fork and upright riding position mark it clearly as an adventure machine in the tradition of the BMW R80 G/S.
The Quota targets the touring rider who is comfortable on unpaved roads but also wants to cover long tarmac distances. Its weight limits it on genuinely challenging terrain, but on gravel tracks and Alpine routes it is in its element. It competes with the BMW R1100 GS and Honda Africa Twin of the same generation. Experience with large motorcycles is recommended given its weight and seat height.

What to check before buying
- Check the driveshaft and final-drive unit for oil leaks and play; high mileage accelerates wear.
- Inspect the front suspension for correct operation; the telescopic fork on early examples is known to leak oil at higher mileages.
- Check wiring and connectors for corrosion, especially around the instruments and alternator.
- Verify the pannier and top-box brackets for cracks and corrosion; original Guzzi accessories are hard to find.
- Check carburettor synchronisation and needle valve wear; erratic idle is a frequently reported complaint.
