Griso 850 (2006–2009)
GenerationThe Griso 850 uses the 877cc small-block V-twin with shaft drive and the long, low Griso chassis. It is the lighter, lower-output version alongside the 1100/1200, making displacement and model name important identifiers in an advert.
About the Moto Guzzi Griso 850
The Moto Guzzi Griso 850 is the compact 2006–2009 Griso: a long, low naked with the 877cc air-cooled small-block V-twin, shaft drive and the strikingly wide silhouette of the Griso family. It is less powerful and lighter than the later 1100 and 1200 versions, but it is not a stripped beginner motorcycle. The combination of low bars, a long tank and visible CARC shaft drive gives it a very different experience from a compact inline-four naked.
The Griso 850 suits a rider who values style, torque feel and relaxed cornering more than maximum power. It can be used daily, but a test ride must show injection, clutch, gearbox and shaft drive working smoothly together. Inspect service invoices, the electrical system and the condition of tyres, suspension and brakes carefully. Do not compare it only by power with an 1100 or 1200: the 850 is compelling precisely as the relatively lighter and more approachable Griso, provided it is mechanically sound.

What to check before buying
- Check CARC shaft-drive and reaction-arm maintenance for leaks, play and unusual knocks on throttle changes.
- Test cold starting, idle and throttle response; uneven running can indicate injection, sensor or adjustment work.
- Check clutch and gearbox for positive operation without heavy shifts or slip under load.
- Inspect wiring, charging voltage, switches and dashboard for faults or moisture traces, especially on a bike stored outside.
- Check fork, rear shock, steering-head bearings, brakes and tyres for wear; the low, heavy front makes sound chassis maintenance important.
